'Shame!' Republican deluged with boos as he urges town hall attendees to 'remain calm'

Source: Raw Story

March 18, 2025 8:15PM ET

Yet another Republican congressman found himself under fire at a contentious town hall event, with one constituent standing up and saying "shame" and attendees raining down boos. Rep. Mike Flood held a town hall on Tuesday — which Republican leadership has advised against amid President Donald Trump's effort to drastically shrink the federal government — in Columbus, Nebraska, which sits in Platte County, a county that swung for Trump with 55% of the vote.

"I believe that town halls are an important part of the process," Flood told constituents in his opening remarks. "It's democracy. It's how we communicate with each other." But as Flood tried to insist changes to massive social programs Social Security and Medicaid were "not on the table," constituents could be heard in the background shouting back.

"Any idea that Social Security is in peril or somehow in jeopardy is absolutely false," he said, as constituents continued to shout back. He received a chorus of yells as he said the federal government's $36 trillion national debt is "not going away" unless Medicaid and Medicare are dealt with.

"Let's remain calm," he urged constituents. "If you're going to ask me a question, let me answer the question," he said before scolding his constituents for holding up the procession of questions. Later in the town hall, Flood received a chorus of boos as he insisted there are "two ways out of this mess" — cutting spending and growing the economy.

until they have paid all the back taxes that they should have been paying all along but which they squirmed their way out of through tax cuts, tax laws that favor the wealthy, clever tax lawyers, and flat-out cheating.

Then tax them at the tax rate they had during, what was it, the 1950s, when they actually paid their share?

Probably before too, but ever since Reagan's forked-tongue framing of "broadening the base", this is what needs to stay hidden at all times.

And the USA has never ever been more "great" and powerful, relative to the rest of the world.

Republicans were like Eisenhower, who was more progressive than Bill Clinton.

So I think we need to flip the saying on its head, and say: We need to shrink the wealth of the billionaires to the point that we can drown them in a bathtub.

Editing ro add, I remember seeing an interview with him where he said it. He loved to trot out that little quip at every opportunity. He was/is just as evil as the rest of them. I wanted to smack his arrogant face into the next century then, and I still do.

Instead, they always go after the EARNED BENEFITS working Americans already paid for with deductions from every paycheck.

As for "growing the economy," trickle-down has never worked and never will. The economy grows when more people have more disposable income.

What Republicans want is to cut regulations which protect Americans from poisonous toxins and fraud -- in order to increase profits for the billionaires who fund their political careers.

They want the ability to stop us from ever regulating them again. Then, once the entire USA is unlivable due to their inhuman greed, they can just leave it and go destroy another part of the planet.

I mean, at least the aliens in 'Independence Day' did it quick and all at once. These sub-human leeches want to slowly and tortuously drain us of everything and then leave like an over-sated tick.

I don't know about you guys, but I know what to do with an over-sated tick.

from an idiot Republican Governor named Sam Brownback. His "experiment" as he called it (0% tax rate on Corporations) came a inch from bankrupting the State of Kansas after three years. It was really that close.

As usual a Dem has to come in and clean up the shit mess. Democrat Governor Laura Kelly has done just that and more in her two terms. She along with Dems and some moderate Republicans got us back (killed the Brownback tax cut) on track with a budget surplus,a refund for seniors on their home property tax and cut the sales tax on food to zero % which was 7.5%. That alone saves us $700-$800 per year.

I hope she runs as a US Rep in 2026 and kicks rubber stamp Ron Estes the hell out of office.

Then when they get the chance they do everything they can to break government and make it ineffective. We're experiencing that on steroids right now.

They claim to be "fiscal conservatives" but deficits skyrocket when they're in power. Their plan has been to get rid of the social safety net by "starving the beast" but that hasn't worked, so now they're using unconstitutional means to destroy our government by ceding unlimited power to an orange fascist and his chainsaw wielding nazi billionaire.

Do these idiots have any idea how many contracts with the federal government are with contractors? How much Soc Sec dollars multiply in the economy?

Why do assholes who say that government should be run like a business never wonder why a business would willfully CUT THEIR REVENUE? Do businesses grow their business by cutting revenue?

There were some High School students there. Apparently, Flood tried to shame the people that were protesting by repeatedly saying; "what example are you setting for these High School students"?

One lady finally yelled; "we're showing them Democracy in action!"

I was struck by the ABSOLUTE GALL of this Flood fuckstick.

He worships and kisses the ass of a convicted felon, rapist, lying, disgusting, ignorant pile of dogshit to have ever walked the face of the earth; and he dares to question the example that is being set??????
