Hegseth 'proud' to end Women, Peace and Security program
Source: The Hill
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth declared Tuesday that he had begun to shutter a Pentagon program meant to advance women’s participation in peace-building and conflict prevention, which was created by a law written by GOP lawmakers and signed by President Trump during his first term.
“This morning, I proudly ENDED the ‘Women, Peace & Security’ (WPS) program inside the [Defense Department],” Hegseth wrote in a post on the social platform X.
He said the program was “yet another woke divisive/social justice/Biden initiative that overburdens our commanders and troops — distracting from our core task: WAR-FIGHTING.”
Hegseth also called WPS a “UNITED NATIONS program pushed by feminists and left-wing activists,” claiming that “troops HATE it.”
As the program is under federal statute and can’t be outright killed by Hegseth alone, he said the Pentagon would comply with the minimum requirements of the WPS and fight to end the program during the department’s next appropriations process.

(927 posts)"BREAKING: Ivanka Trump suffers the consequences of her father's sexist agenda as MAGA Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth terminates her signature "Women, Peace and Security program" for being too "woke."
And it gets even more embarrassing...
"This morning, I proudly ENDED the 'Women, Peace & Security' (WPS) program inside the @DeptofDefense. WPS is yet another woke divisive/social justice/Biden initiative that overburdens our commanders and troops — distracting from our core task: WAR-FIGHTING," Hegseth posted.
He went on to smear WPS as a United Nations program that was "pushed by feminists and left-wing activists," claiming that "politicians fawn over it" while "troops HATE it."
"GOOD RIDDANCE WPS!" he added.
In reality, the program was enacted in 2017 by Trump when he signed the Women, Peace and Security Act. His campaign later celebrated the program to woo female voters.
It was championed by Ivanka and then-Senator Marco Rubio. Ivanka again lauded it in 2019, saying that she was "proud to announce" that Colombia would be developing a WPS National Action Plan.
Earlier this month, Rubio celebrated the initiative, calling it a "bill that I was very proud to have been a co-sponsor of when I was in the Senate."
It appears that Hegseth — an alleged alcoholic who rarely seems to be thinking straight — failed to realize that WPS was a Trump-created and Ivanka-backed program rather than a Biden-created one.
Hegseth pathetically attempted to backtrack on his first tweet with a followup post two hours later, writing that the Biden administration "distorted & weaponized the straight-forward & security-focused WPS initiative launched in 2017.
"So—yes—we are ending the 'woke divisive/social justice/Biden (WPS) initiative.' Biden ruined EVERYTHING, including 'Women, Peace & Security,'" he concluded.
As is to be expected from a MAGA hack, Hegseth provided no evidence for his claim that President Biden corrupted the program. In all likelihood, he eliminated the program and then realized that it wasn't a product of the Biden administration.
This guy is a booze-fueled mess who shouldn't be trusted to tie his own shoes in the morning, let alone run the Pentagon.
Please like and share!"
Hogsbreath may actually get his pee-pee whacked on this one if Orange Julius Caesar still recognizes and listens to his daughter Ivanka.

She continued, "You are that man (and have been for years) and as your mother, it pains me and embarrasses me to say that, but it is the sad, sad truth."
Her message concluded: "On behalf of all the women (and I know it's many) you have abused in some way, I say ... get some help and take an honest look at yourself..."

(163,575 posts)Pete Hegseth didn’t need another setback, but the Pentagon chief nevertheless condemned a policy long championed by Donald Trump and prominent Republicans.
But let's not forget that the legislation — which Hegseth called a "Biden initiative" — was also written by Kristi Noem and Marco Rubio.

It was against this backdrop that the current defense secretary, Pete Hegseth, decided to make an announcement by way of social media:
This morning, I proudly ENDED the ‘Women, Peace & Security’ (WPS) program inside the [Pentagon]. WPS is yet another woke divisive/social justice/Biden initiative that overburdens our commanders and troops — distracting from our core task: WAR-FIGHTING. WPS is a UNITED NATIONS program pushed by feminists and left-wing activists. Politicians fawn over it; troops HATE it. DoD will hereby executive [sic] the minimum of WPS required by statute, and fight to end the program for our next budget. GOOD RIDDANCE WPS!
Except, of course, this wasn’t a “Biden initiative” — it was touted by the Trump administration as a Trump initiative.
But wait, there’s more. When the Women, Peace, and Security Act was still pending on Capitol Hill, the chief co-sponsor of the legislation was none other than then-Rep. Kristi Noem — before the South Dakota Republican became governor and before she started working alongside Hegseth in the White House Cabinet as the Homeland Security secretary.
In case that weren’t quite enough, when the Women, Peace, and Security Act was considered in the Senate, it was also co-sponsored by then-Sen. Marco Rubio — before the Florida Republican also started working alongside Hegseth in the White House Cabinet as the secretary of state.,,,,,
As Politico reported, Hegseth’s move did not go unnoticed in Congress. Democratic Sen. Jeanne Shaheen of New Hampshire, who co-wrote the 2017 bill with Rubio, said in a statement that Hegseth’s latest move reflected “a dangerous and disturbing pattern from the Secretary, who clearly does not listen to advice from senior military leaders. He also continues to ignore the invaluable role women play in our national security. It’s startling that just because the word ‘women’ is in the title, this evidence-based security program has been reduced to a DEI program.”
Around the same time, during a Senate Armed Service Committee hearing, Democratic Sen. Tim Kaine of Virginia noted that Lt. Gen. Dan Caine, Trump’s choice to serve as the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, hailed the program during his confirmation hearing.
“The fact that he doesn’t like WPS and the fact that he claims that it’s a Biden issue when it is an initiative that was supported unanimously by Republican majority of the Senate and ‘troops hate it’ when the newly confirmed head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff testifies to its value, I find shocking,” Kaine said.
The president told The Atlantic last week, in reference to Hegseth, “I think he’s gonna get it together.” That might yet be true, but the beleaguered and hapless Pentagon chief apparently hasn’t gotten it together yet.
