Trump fires Doug Emhoff, Biden appointees from Holocaust museum board

Source: The Hill

04/29/25 4:20 PM ET

Former second gentleman Doug Emhoff on Tuesday was kicked off of the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum board, which includes over 50 president-appointee members.

“Today, I was informed of my removal from the United States Holocaust Memorial Council. Let me be clear: Holocaust remembrance and education should never be politicized. To turn one of the worst atrocities in history into a wedge issue is dangerous — and it dishonors the memory of six million Jews murdered by Nazis that this museum was created to preserve,” Emhoff said in a statement to The Hill. “No divisive political decision will ever shake my commitment to Holocaust remembrance and education or to combatting hate and antisemitism. I will continue to speak out, to educate, and to fight hate in all its forms—because silence is never an option,” he added.

Emhoff, who is Jewish, worked to combat the rise in antisemitism during the Biden administration and was appointed to the board by the former president. He was also active on the campaign trail, going to bat for Vice President Harris in challenging President Trump before she lost to him in November.

A White House official confirmed to The Hill that some members of the council have been released and the Trump administration is interviewing potential replacements. Other former officials removed from the council included Biden’s former chief of staff Ron Klain, former Biden domestic policy adviser Susan Rice and former senior adviser to first lady Jill Biden Anthony Bernal, among others, The New York Times reported

Doug Emhoff publicly criticizes his law firm for coming to agreement with Trump administration

By Jake Tapper, CNN

Updated 5:48 PM EDT, Sat April 5, 2025

CNN — Speaking at a charity gala dinner Thursday night in Los Angeles, former second gentleman Doug Emhoff condemned the decision by his law firm to preemptively come to an arrangement with the Trump administration to avoid an executive order targeting the firm, sources tell CNN.

Emhoff is a partner at Willkie Farr & Gallagher LLP, which this week agreed to a deal with President Donald Trump, which the president said includes the firm providing at least $100 million in pro bono legal services throughout his second term.

It’s the third example of a high-profile firm cutting a deal with the White House as Trump has targeted firms that have done work with his perceived political enemies.

Emhoff told the crowd at the Annual Dinner Gala for the legal aid group Bet Tzedek he had told the firm he wanted to fight the threat of an executive order he found unconstitutional but had been overruled, the sources said.

(snip)

So since this just happened at the beginning of the month, he might be considering his options (including going elsewhere).

ETA - I just found this about how he got there (he's only been there since the end of January) - Willkie Welcomes Douglas C. Emhoff as Partner

Although there is supposedly "an agreement", it remains to be seen whether they are actually called upon to participate - at least right away.
