Trump grapples with political setback after Democrats ride voter fury over prices

WASHINGTON, Nov 5 (Reuters) - It's been a year since Donald Trump's decisive win in the 2024 presidential election, and the White House had planned an anniversary rollout on Wednesday highlighting the promises kept by the Republican leader since he returned to office.

Instead, the president and his Republican allies were left grappling with a string of Democratic victories in off-year elections, a rare setback for Trump as voters in a handful of states signaled resistance to his agenda.

Trump, known for resisting defeat, reacted predictably. He blamed Democrats for a government shutdown - the longest in U.S. history - that he said contributed to his party's losses, cajoled Republicans to change Senate rules to make it easier to pass his agenda and distanced himself from the results by noting the absence of his own name on the ballot.

But he also acknowledged that the night had not gone well for Republicans and, somewhat uncharacteristically, suggested they had lessons to learn from their loss. “Exactly one year ago we had that big beautiful victory," Trump told lawmakers from his party at the White House early on Wednesday. "And last night was not expected to be a victory. I don't think it was good for Republicans."

And since when does Trump "resist defeat"? Declaring bankruptcy at the first sign of business trouble isn't "resisting defeat"; it's admitting it, and then giving up.

yes, cost of goods was a huge factor, but I'm guessing just as many people turned out to vote against ICE kidnappings, unauthorized and illegal bombing of Venuzuela fishing boats, the absolute wreckage of any Federal social safety net, and bullshit "DEI" firings of militaary and civil service workers.

Too easy to just say, "yeah, price of eggs is still too high".
People are sickened seeing all of the videos of hard-working people and KIDS being thrown to the pavement and beaten by masked federal agents.

But more so than even that, I believe people are sick and tired of seeing people treated with such disrespect, indignity, and cruelty. We're also tired of having our sense of Ethics... as written in their bible... thrown in our faces as trash. Slapping Christ's cheek is not what I think most real Christians feel is right. But feeding, clothing, and helping those who need it ARE things listed in that Bible as that which will get you into heaven.. or at least, give you a good shot at it.

I don't like that the headline makes out that it was ONLY economic. I like to think that many had the heinous crimes of ICE thugs in mind, as well.
