US to suspend visa processing for 75 nations, State Department says

Source: Reuters

The Trump administration is suspending all visa processing for applicants from 75 countries, a State Department spokesperson said on Wednesday.

The spokesperson did not elaborate on the plan, first reported by Fox News, which cited a State Department memo.

The pause will begin on January 21, Fox News said.

Somalia, Russia, Iran, Afghanistan, Brazil, Nigeria, Thailand are among the affected countries, according to the report.

I guess that's one way to win the World Cup. Don't process the visa applications of the countries on the list.

On edit: at the bottom of this article is the full list of countries.

Tell me that the FIFA organization is the world's most corrupted group, second only to Trump's corrupt criminal syndicate.
It's only natural that those two would be each other's bestest buddies......

Make no mistake: Little Narco's greasy (and rather limp) hands were all over that list.

Bolivia, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Honduras, Panama, Paraguay and Peru - with overwhelmingly mestizo (dark-skinned) populations - were left off the list.

But Uruguay - which displaced Canada as the "whitest" country in the Americas some two decades ago already - is on the list.

Why? Because the former all have, or will now have, right-leaning administrations (or, like El Salvador or Peru - RW dictatorships outright).

But Uruguay - which arguably has Latin America's best-functioning democracy (and second only to Canada in the hemisphere, thanks to Snoozalini) - has a center-left president (Yamandú Orsi - a protegé of the renowned Pepe Mujica).

Well-educated Uruguay also has the lowest standardized poverty rate in the region - and is rarely the source of any "illegal" immigration at all (most Uruguayan emigrants move - legally - to neighboring Argentina, if at all).

But several of the countries on that "ok" list are major sources of undocumented immigration - and are likely to be for years to come, given their socio-economic situations.

But, of course, that's not what really concerns Little Narco at all - himself the child of refugee migrants (an "anchor baby," as our GOP friends like to put it).

He thinks he's "sticking it to the left" with this list (ha!). That's all that matters to Alice Wainwright Park's most famous alum.

Your take on it totally makes sense.

But where is this "ok" list you speak of? I didn't see one.
Or maybe you might copy/paste it? TIA.

Those excluded from the list are countries we likely trade with (except Brazil; who we do trade with; its inclusion was another eye opener for me) You're right about Vlad bribes, but this is a Rubio State Dept. operation, and with his poll numbers down, the fascist felon doesn't really care about anything but winning the midterms and not releasing the million+ Epstein files.

I wish the hackers of DHS data on ICE could just hack the DOJ, find those files and release them. The felon would immediately fire his current head of CISA, and probably Bondi for that matter.

If they did that I'd sleep easier this year. Also, if they did that it would put to bed the fake morality of the gop, whose oligarch donors will be exposed for the pedos many of them are.

Like most Latin right-wingers, he believes - or professes to believe - that the only good leftists, are dead leftists.

That kind of thinking, as you know, gave us the Latin American debt crisis of the 1980s - a $400 billion morass wholly the result of right-wing delusions: both Latin ones - who borrowed heavily, mostly to finance offshoring - and U.S. ones, who couldn't lend to their murderous amigos down south fast enough.

Bank of America, for one, went bankrupt as a result (they were bailed out by Japanese investors).

most countries have already cut down the majority of even their tourists coming to the U.S. already......

You can be sure that the number of work visas has increased at all of Trump's Hotel/Golf Resorts......
Anyone remember when Trump's Bedminster? resort was raided by the FBI shortly after his first days in his first term?????
They found BOXES of BLANK SOCIAL SECURITY CARDS and a small printing press to imprint the employees name??????
Nothing was ever made of it by the FBI, nor were there searches at all his other Hotel/Golf Resorts in the U.S.......
It has been reported that many of his domestic workers and grounds keepers have "Einstein" visas......LOL

Serbia has some serious criminal gangs. But Jared wants to build a hotel there, so it wouldn't do to upset the Serbs.

Macedonians? what on earth does Trump have against them? They haven't been a threat to anyone since the days of Alexander.

One gets the impression that Little Narco oversaw the drawing up of this list - with little-to-no input from our now practically-disabled POUTUS.

I work at the Rwanda campus of an American University. Our students, faculty, and staff come from 30+ nations around Africa. There are regular trips and exchanges to our main campus in the US. This list, added to the ones that came out in the last couple of months, mean that very few of our people will now be able to visit the mother ship.

African nations are beginning to reciprocate for this treatment by blocking new visas for Americans. So far that bars me from travel to 3 or 4 countries. But that list may now grow.

I see no rational basis for the Administration's decisions in this matter other than racist/nationalist dog whistles. And even then, several of the countries blocked have white majority populations.

They are just doing more to erode US reputation and influence abroad. A true self-inflicted wound and yet another great opportunity for our competitors to pick up our fumbles. We may never fully recover.

[sigh]
