The FBI executed a search warrant at the Fulton county, Georgia, election office on Wednesday, a spokesperson for the FBIs Atlanta field office said.
The purpose and scope of the warrant were not immediately clear. Our investigation into this matter is ongoing so there are no details that I can provide at the moment, said FBI Atlanta spokesperson Jenna Sellitto.
Fulton county officials are scrambling to understand the nature and target of the search at the countys election hub and operation center, according to Regina Waller, a spokesperson for Fulton county. The offices location in south Fulton is roughly half an hour south of Atlanta.

(13,534 posts)Complete bullshit, of course. I hope theres a secure backup of the data, because you know these criminals will alter or trash votes if they can get away with it.
This also sets the stage for them to install some kind of draconian oversight in Fulton Co. for the 2026 midterms.

(32,340 posts)What chaos he'll dream up next. He's looking for voter rolls in several states. In NC our Board of Elections just handed them over. It's really scary times.

(7,009 posts).... With subpoenas they can be challenged after being served, but with a search warrant they just show up and start searching. I think that's a feature, not a bug, because it doesn't allow the suspect to destroy or hide evidence. HOWEVER, if it goes to court, you can move to have the evidence thrown out if the warrant was defective.
One thing to remember is that Fulton Co is a special case. Normally, the retention period for election results is 22 months there. Normally, the seized material would have been disposed of long ago, but in this case they were under a court order to preserve it. Other states and counties would not have results laying around to be seized.
It is also the case that secretaries of state are closely cooperating with one another, and if this became a widespread general practice they would all start fighting back.

Trumpâs whining about his 2020 defeat is easy to ignore. His actions are not:

Thats the context for FBI agents execution of a search warrant Wednesday at the Fulton County elections office near Atlanta. MS NOW reported:
The warrant sought a number of records related to 2020 elections, Fulton County spokeswoman Jessica Corbitt said Wednesday afternoon.
According to a copy of the warrant obtained and verified by MS NOW, the federal government is seeking evidence of voter fraud, as well as violations of a misdemeanor federal statute requiring elections officials to retain records related to presidential elections for 22 months.
According to Fulton County Commissioner Dana Barrett and another Fulton County source, who requested anonymity out of fear of retribution, the FBI took pallets of ballots. A New York Times report noted that the move harnesses the investigative power of the Justice Department and the F.B.I. behind baseless claims by Mr. Trump and his supporters that the 2020 election was stolen from him......
If the White House wants federal law enforcement officials to waste their time rereviewing what we already know, thats a shame for the officials who could be doing real work on behalf of the public, but in the grand scheme of things, it might seem trivial.
But its not quite that simple. For one thing, the president who controls the Justice Department is intent on prosecuting unnamed foes as part of his hysterical crusade, and the FBIs latest efforts in Fulton County are another step down the same radical path. And as Democratic Sen. Adam Schiff of California explained well, this is also part of a larger effort by federal officials to interfere in local elections ahead of this years midterms.
