Organizers call for Friday boycott and protests after deaths of Good, Pretti

Organizers of last year’s No Kings protests are calling for a day of boycotts followed by a day of demonstrations after the shootings of Renee Good and Alex Pretti in Minneapolis.

The 50501 Project is urging U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to scale back its operations amid a surge in immigration enforcement activities in Minneapolis and elsewhere. The group is asking supporters not to conduct business Friday, calling it a day of “no school, no work and no shopping.”

Several hundred immigration and civil rights advocacy groups are promoting the events. The economic boycott will be followed by a day of protests on Saturday.

“The entire country is shocked and outraged at the brutal killings of Alex Pretti, Renee Good, Silverio Villegas González and Keith Porter Jr. by federal agents. While Trump and other right-wing politicians are slandering them as ‘terrorists,’ the video evidence makes it clear beyond all doubt: They were gunned down in broad daylight simply for exercising their First Amendment right to protest mass deportation,” the 50501 Movement said in a statement. “Every day, ICE, Border Patrol and other enforcers of Trump’s racist agenda are going into our communities to kidnap our neighbors and sow fear.”

I've noticed that 50501 tends to go off on it's own without coordinating across the larger coalition pat_k 16 hrs ago #4

Look at Jimmy Kimmel as proof. We are doing great with our peaceful, massive nationwide protests (hitting the 3.5% mark). No Kings, Hands Off (2 of them) were exactly what we needed to show visually (the enormous protests in 3,000 cities) to the press, the public and the govt. We have the numbers. We have the passion. We will not allow them to continue to bankrupt and destroy the USA!
When the seniors realized tRump taking away their benefits they finally woke up and realized that what team tRump is doing will harm them. It had to hit them where they live....SS and healthcare as well as affording electricity and food. Guns, abortion, climate change were non-issues with many seniors. tRump had to effect their lives personally. Better late than ever I guess.

I favor ...
1. Huge, nationwide protests
2. Boycotting those who support tRump
3. Nationwide strikes during a week-day

Tell me what democracy looks like...
This is what democracy looks like!!!!!

of partners that have organized the most successful days of action/protest.

I'm all for a national strike but I don't have a sense that two-days notice is sufficient to get the word out and enlist enough people to be effective.

that are working towards the same goal. In some cases, those orgs bubble up in areas where the more "national" orgs have no presence.

"50501" is a newer group that has worked in parallel with "No Kings" for past events, but also has its own focus.

And as a note, the call for a "national strike" to address grievances has been a goal for over a century and it usually fails, just due to the sheer size of this country. So the more orgs that can fill the gaps of organizing coverage, the more the word gets out.
