First Democrats call for Cherfilus-McCormick to resign over ethics findings

Two lawmakers became the first Democrats to call on Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick
Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick (D-Fla.) to resign after the House Ethics Committee found the lawmaker committed dozens of ethics violations.
The committee revealed Friday morning that its Adjudicatory Subcommittee was able to prove 25 out of 27 allegations against Cherfilus-McCormick, finding she funded her 2021 House campaign with millions of improperly paid federal disaster funds. The Ethics panel is evenly split between Democrats and Republicans.
Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (D-Wash.) reacted to the findings in a post on social platform X.
Rep. Vicente Gonzalez (D-Texas) also called on the Florida Democrat to step aside, comparing her violations to disgraced former Rep. George Santos (R-N.Y.) in comments to Punchbowl News.
