Trump Claims He 'Did So Well With the Gay Vote' Because He Plays the 'The Gay National Anthem' at Rallies

President Donald Trump claimed he did well among gay voters in the last election, and credited The Village People. Trump held a rally in Suffern, New York on Friday, where he was joined by Rep. Mike Lawler (R-NY), who is running for reelection in New York’s 17th congressional district.

The president was introduced by New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart, whose physique Trump marveled at. “I’m looking at the legs,” Trump said. “He’s this beautiful guy. He’s got legs like tree trunks!”

Later, he told the crowd that First Lady Melania Trump had requested the president not recite some of his regular rally lines. During the anecdote, he took a brief detour to say he did well among gay voters because he plays “Y.M.C.A.” by The Village People at his rallies.

“[S]he says, ‘Darling, please, you speak so beautifully, would you do me a favor? Don’t do the swimming story. Don’t do the weight-lifting story. It’s so damn unpresidential. And also, darling, when you’re leaving, and they have that song, gay national anthem,'” Trump said, relaying the first lady’s remarks. “That’s why I did so well with the gay vote, I think, because of that song,” he said. “I did great with the gay vote, better than any Republican’s ever done by far, but my wife, first lady, very elegant woman.”

He says he "cherishes" women, but it is more like an obsession and clearly he has a love-hate relationship with women. I'm sure he endured a whole lot of rejection when he was younger (and even as he got older as well).

As a woman, I can say, he is definitely the kind of guy that turns women off. Those videos of him partying with Epstein are so revealing. The only pretty women who were interested at all were the ones who knew he had money. He was decidedly unattractive and socially awkward, with "loser" written all over him.

I've known my share of such men and the more they are rejected, the more annoying and obnoxious they become. I can now easily picture him physically abusing young women and girls, maybe as payback for all the many rejections.

but I clearly remember the type and I also remember most women bending over backwards to get away from him. Even other men did their best to avoid the Trump type know-it-all guy. The Trump types didn't have friends and the only time people tolerated him was if they were broke and needed someone to buy them a drink.

In some respects, Trump has an edge over men with similar problems being he actually did/does have money, so there are more likely to be people who succumb to his questionable charms. As with everything Trump, it is all very transactional.

His handpicked members of the Supreme Court and his Christian Nationalists seek to ban gay marriage. I doubt he did so well with this segment of the electorate. He's so delusional that he thinks making arm motions to a pop tune makes him gain support from gays.

To claim he did well with LGBTQ voters because of playing YMCA, implies LQBTQ people don't care about policies, but can be fooled into voting for him just because of a song he plays? A song that I'm sure large numbers of LGBTQ voters hate (just like large numbers of non-LGBTQ voters). That is so offensive it makes me sick.

It's also a lie. He received only 12% of the LGBTQ vote in 2024, a significantly lower percentage than 2020 and 2016. The lowest percentage for a Republican in the last 5 elections (and possibly more).
