Kennedy Center refuses to take tarps off where Trump's name was removed

Source: msn.com

Matthew Chapman • 12h • 2 min read

President Donald Trump suffered a severe humiliation this month when the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts was finally ordered by a federal court to remove Trump's name from the side of the building, clarifying that Congress only allowed Kennedy's name to be on the facility.

Now, days later, tarps are still covering the spot where Trump's name was, and, according to The New York Times, it's starting to arouse suspicion. Some are even questioning whether the name was in fact fully removed at all.

Matt Floca, the operations chief for the Kennedy Center, "filed a sworn declaration with a federal court later that day saying that Mr. Trump’s name had been removed," noted the report. And at least some letters were taken off, as "a New York Times photographer captured evidence through an opening in the tarp that the letter 'A' came off," as well as a "D" in a separate photograph.

The Kennedy Center will not give a direct explanation for why the tarps aren't coming down, with one spokesperson saying, “The scaffolding and tarp will remain up as crews address maintenance needs of the marble and soffit panels.

Rep. Joyce Beatty (D-OH), the Kennedy Center board member who sued over Trump-aligned officials' mishandling of the facility in the first place, told The Times, “Donald Trump is embarrassed. He lost in court, his name came down, and now he is trying to hide the result from the public.”

Why is a giant tarp still hanging at the Kennedy Center?

The tarp was put up over the scaffolding last week, as crews removed President Donald Trump's name from the Kennedy Center.

WASHINGTON — A tarp covering the area where President Donald Trump's name was removed from the Kennedy Center remains in place Friday night.

"Take down the tarp!' the crowd gathered for the weekly Hands Off The Arts protest yelled.

According to a Kennedy Center official, the tarp will remain while crews address maintenance needs involving the marble and soffit panels. Officials did not verify exactly why the tarp was initially needed.

The debate over the tarp intensified Friday as a status report was filed in court regarding the future of the Kennedy Center just hours before a deadline. The center had been directed to provide details explaining why a full two-year closure would be needed by June 19.

In the filing, the Kennedy Center said it intends to keep the building open beyond the original planned July 5 closure date. The filing also states the center is compiling all options, including a possible full closure, for the board to consider in a vote scheduled for mid-July.

Sat Jun 20, 2026, 12:01 PM

Least likely:
The Idiot Son of an Asshole told the removal crew before they got it all off that he's written an Executive Order directing his name remain in place, and they're standing by wondering if they have to take the rest of it down or put it back up.

Possibly more likely:
They're trying to protect Trump's delicate feelings by not letting him see his name is gone.

Almost certain:
His name is down. The process of drilling into the marble to install Trump's name, and the prying necessary to remove it, has damaged the building's fascia to the point millions of dollars are going to have to be spent repairing it.

Take the damn tarp down and make the damn repairs already!! Do it in view of the public like any other normal building maintenance.

I think what's going on is that the felon's sycophants on the board have ordered the repairs to the building to be "deferred" indefinitely because the troll is a lunatic that believes he will prevail and his name will go back up, so why fix it?

Trump has told them not to take the tarp down because he's throwing a fucking tantrum about his name being removed. Pretty simple explanation.

How do I know that? Because I've been watching this asshole's reactions for the last ten years and that scenarios is the most likely fit.

The level of childishness is unbelievable. And the stupidity behind it? The whole thing is nothing more than a distraction from Epstein. He just wants to see how far he can take it.

Personally, this does not affect me in any way. So it's off my radar for now.

Someone should climb up there and take it down. In the same way that the Trump Administration operates, that being that "forgiveness is easier to get than permission".

Trump signed an executive order saying that he’s putting his name back up. The Kennedy Center doesn’t want to spend the money to patch the holes if they’re gonna have to put the letters back up where they were before. They also don’t want to have to explain why the holes are not being patched.

Pilgrims have journeyed to the Kennedy Center over the past week and a half hoping to see proof that President Donald Trump’s name is gone from the building’s exterior. They’ve all left frustrated, many with the same question: Why is the tarp-covered scaffolding still up, 11 days after crews used it to take Trump’s name down?

Now a federal judge is asking the same thing — and has directed the Kennedy Center to give an answer.

U.S. District Judge Christopher Cooper on Wednesday ordered the center’s board of trustees to file updates about the tarp-covered scaffolding and the center’s plans for maintaining operations and arts programming after July 5, the date it had intended to close for two years of renovations.

On May 29, Cooper ruled that the Trump-aligned trustees had illegally voted to rename the center, which Congress had exclusively named after the assassinated President John F. Kennedy, and ordered Trump’s name be erased from official materials within two weeks. On June 12, a 14-member crew erected scaffolding to comply with the deadline. The workers missed it, taking down the letters around 3 a.m. on June 13, and the center’s lawyers confirmed in a court filing later that morning that the work was done.

But the center left the scaffolding and tarps in place. Barricades staffed by security guards have kept people from approaching and blocked any view of the exterior.

In a statement last week, Kennedy Center spokeswoman Roma Daravi said the tarps and scaffolding “will remain up as crews address maintenance needs of the marble and soffit panels.”

On Monday, The Washington Post obtained photos showing the first public look at the facade since the name came down.

This judge is not happy

Like when your parents tell you to stop hitting your brother, and you start punching him instead. Donnie obeyed the letter of the law (maybe) - his minions took his name off the building, but letting anyone see it that way is for him a bigger defeat. Or he hides the building because he can't face the truth - or let anyone be reminded that he lost this skirmish.
