The New York Times On The Undeniable Success Of The Biden Presidency

by Simon Rosenberg

I don’t usually post on Sundays, but Peter Baker’s new New York Times essay that echoes themes and stats deeply familiar to the Hopium community merited a quick send: (gift link):

To hear President-elect Donald J. Trump tell it, he is about to take over a nation ravaged by crisis, a desolate hellscape of crime, chaos and economic hardship. “Our Country is a disaster, a laughing stock all over the World!” he declared on social media last week.

But by many traditional metrics, the America that Mr. Trump will inherit from President Biden when he takes the oath for a second time, two weeks from Monday, is actually in better shape than that bequeathed to any newly elected president since George W. Bush came into office in 2001.

For the first time since that transition 24 years ago, there will be no American troops at war overseas on Inauguration Day. New data reported in the past few days indicate that murders are way down, illegal immigration at the southern border has fallen even below where it was when Mr. Trump left office and roaring stock markets finished their best two years in a quarter-century.

Trump will take credit for turning around the economy in day 1 and his ilk-informed believers will accept his lies. By now, voters should know that Republicans destroy the economy and Democrats resurrect it. They refuse to learn, though, because Republicans always promise them fake goals.

Not sure where the DU Archive went, but I'm pretty sure we have links here that can help the old gray lady start 2025 off more "both sides" truthfully.

Your constant trashing of Democrats during the campaign, coupled with your unending avoidance of trump's many issues, are a matter of public record. Unforgivable, for a paper that once enjoyed such high status.

why wasn't this the way CNN started off the debate, instead of jumping down Biden's throat right off the mark?

I know it was a very successful presidency and the fact that he doesn't get four more years to finish business is absolutely sickening.

to forgive how quickly Dems pissed down their leg after one fucking debate and decided to backstab him with 100 days to go. Maybe they panicked... Maybe they had legitimate concerns about his age... Maybe they were playing the long game in thinking if we forced Biden out, the Republicans would feel a duty to do the same to Donnie after unbearable media pressure...

(Just a daily reminder: Don't ever count on the GOP to do the right thing in ANY situation... This is a party that actively sees out the worst possible option just to fuck with us...)

But as I predicted on Twitter, instead of the media turning their focus to Donnie's age and cognitive decline, his slurring of words, his long rambling diatribes that went nowhere and the fact that he not only performed way worse than Biden in the second debate but then chickened out of a third debate, they just dropped the issue entirely...

And now we are all living in the worst possible timeline...

(Also, a special FU to the Dem voters who loved Biden and loved Biden's domestic accomplishments, yet couldn't bring themselves to vote for his veep because she's a black woman...)
