According to the US Flag Code, flying the American flag upside down is a federal offense unless it represents:

(11,293 posts)They're going to stay there throughout this next term. Also will be sitting for National Anthem starting on Jan 20. At present I stand but bow my head in honor of my son and other veterans who died by suicide. My husband has been sitting since the orange slime was elected. I'll be joining him after the 20th.

(11,293 posts)on Dec. 29 2015, 9 years ago. He is at peace now. He had not only PTSD but an undiagnosed brain injury, probably from concussion bombs exploding around him. Even I, a cardiology nurse (not neuro) could see the symptoms, yet the VA, could not manage to diagnose this. So he was self-treating with alcohol. He couldn't take it any more, just like so many veterans. So screw the VA.

(2,397 posts)I went to the CSM of my activity and he immediately called his counterpart at WRAMC. A few days later a news story emerged about the terrible conditions at WRAMC.

PTSD and TBI are silent killers of our brave young men and women when they return home from combat. For the rest of my life my head turns at loud noises. Someone dropped a box of Hammermill paper on the floor ["THUD!!!"] and two other heads immediately turned towards it. "Well, now we know who deployed in this office," remarked one of the civilian analysts.
A few years ago, I was asked to lead a parade for Vets in a small town and I politely declined.
I also declined to address JROTC at a nearby HS.
The US military has produced enough victims and veterans.
Thank you for sharing your story with me.

(11,293 posts)They're pretty bad. I know that from some things I heard from a friend who worked there. I occasionally kick myself (not too hard, it's all past now) for not going down there and fighting for him when he was hospitalized there in 2014. I'm still kind of pissed at the offhanded way they dealt with him then. He had a lot going on and they ignored it. He's buried in the military cemetery up there, which was more my daughter's choice than anyone's. I think I would rather have had him buried in our hometown cemetery in TN, where there is a space for veterans, but I didn't fight her on it.

(11,293 posts)Now I'm just pissed off at the VA. I don't think abolishing it is a bad idea IF they would just regroup it and do it right, the way it was when my dad came home from WWII. It was good back then but became a bloated monster, a pale imitation of its former self.
