I think it's because all the numbers take place in the context of music performances.
Even those I kind if liked (Chicago, for example) I wouldn't watch again.
I've watched Cabaret more than once.

In fact, when my ladt band played New Year's Eve gigs, I appropriated that look. Less make up, but the tuxedo with a morning jacket, baggy black pants, hair slicked back and wet.
I openly admitted it was either my Joel Grey look or my Guy Lomardo from He'll look.

perform in Cabaret live onstage, back when I was in college. Outstanding performance in a tremendous show!
