OP
Agreed. The only difference is that the "+" sign is understood for the positive numbers, and is tnerefore not needed.

Just talking purely in the weather usage context. Of course you are right in the math context!

Not sure how the weather context changes the point on weather scale. 9 and -9 have an 18 degree delta.

(6,314 posts)2. No, that is below zero territory
Single digits is just the approach to zero from above. After that the below zero status takes priority.

(29,265 posts)4. Huh? 9 and -9 are single digit numbers.
+ or - has nothing to do with the fact that they are single digit numbers. Or the fact that only 8 other numbers share this label.

(6,314 posts)8. If someone says single digits you know it's above zero because otherwise they'd be bragging about below zero
Thats all, just an observation about the phrase single digits in a weather context. Nothing about math or number theory!

(29,265 posts)9. OK, makes sense.
5 degrees here as I type. 10 degrees colder would put me at -5. Not a whole lot colder, unless I also had winds. Then, the difference is really noticeable.

You can't feel the difference. It's all just very, very cold.
