(18,141 posts)each summer for a couple of weeks. My grandmother didn't own a car and didn't do very much or get out a whole lot, but when I'd come there we'd take a bus to some shopping center. There was a department store where she loved the patty melts. Whenever I see or hear about them I think about her.

(20,090 posts)I was in my 40s when I had my first patty melt. Love them. I make mine with beef, cheddar or swiss cheese, grilled onion and thousand island dressing,if I have it, a shake of cayenne, on rye, any kind of rye Grilled.
If I don't have 1000 island, I put a dab of mayo and chili sauce on.
