(9,925 posts)I feel badly for anyone who has to suffer through it.
Worse thing I have ever had.
And it can return, the doc sez.

(29,209 posts)I just didn't have it on my radar to get the shingles shot. But now I encourage everyone to get it, even if you have to pay for it.

(6,401 posts)After getting the Shingrix shots, the flareups are not as severe, but they are still really painful. My sister had a really bad case of shingles years ago; it lasted nearly a month!
Some of the Covid vaccines have triggered shingles reactions for me for several days. Annoying but worth it for the Covid protection.

(23,121 posts)Upon having it prescribed by a veterinarian, we gave it to our dog, who was severely arthritic. It did seem to help him settle down. Prior to that he was on an anti-inflammatory/painkiller but it was harder on his liver (one upside of Gabepentin is that it hardly has any effect on the liver while being processed) and it was much more affordable.
Anyway, he passed on, but our male dog now, much younger, is going to be starting Gabepentin this week until he has surgery to fix his hip dysplasia. I'm hoping it helps him, of course.

(52,092 posts)a step it was as if I'd been hit with a lightning bolt. I literally crawled through the house to make it to the car to go to the ER. I'm grateful to the neurologist I ended up seeing who prescribed gabapentin. For almost a year I was on the maximum dosage. Now I take 300 mg. a day to help with sleep and to keep just a little twinge of neuralgia in my left leg at bay. Shingles was a walk in the park compared to the neuralgia complication that ensued.
