Went to a jewelry store about 20 miles from our house.
I texted them about 6 this morning to see if they did ring removal. An hour later they texted yes, and they open at 10.
She had a special too that has a little hook on the tip, and a cutting wheel the crank like a can opener. Took a minute & a half!
There was no charge! So, I decided to use them for the resizing.
But, she said my finger has to be sans ring for a couple weeks so the indentation mostly goes away.
So, for 2 weeks I won't have a ring on that finger for more than a half-hour for the first time since March 1980.

(10,836 posts)We had a coworker who was a little off center. A lady asked him if he could get a ring off of her swollen finger. He said “Sure. Did ya bring it with ya?”

Now that sounds like Louie De Palma.
Sorry. Guess I'm feeling a little nostalgic for classic TV

(20,700 posts)in 2019, I took my wedding ring off, after my finger started swelling. I have a small tray on my dresser with my ring, my husband's ring and his keys.
I've got a large silver ring I wear once in awhile if I feel like wearing jewelry. It's showy and keeps the finger from bending

(10,836 posts)It lets you open the ring up, slide it down over an enlarged knuckle, and then close it up.

(72,847 posts)On two of my attempts to get it off, she was on the couch right next to me.
She knew this last resort was the only option.
I'll get it repaired & resized in a couple weeks. My MRIs will be behind me by then.

(3,160 posts)Didn’t get the ring off fast enough and the finger started swelling. Ended up at a jewelry store also.

(6,116 posts)Need this. Ring has been on my finger for 63 years and is getting tight. Didn't know of that service

(19,763 posts)Water to get it off yourself. It’s really painful to do this and it pretty much destroys your ring although it sounds like the OP found a jeweler who is willing to work with what’s left. When I’ve witnessed this being done before, the person’s finger turned colors that fingers are not supposed to be while we live.
mahina
(19,763 posts)Actually, very painful. I’m glad they did that for you for free. It would be kind of mean to charge to do that humanitarian work. I’m glad you’ll work with him in the future for the resize.

(2,602 posts)We carry a similar tool in the ambulance to remove rings if necessary and if there’s no other way
ProfessorGAC
(72,847 posts)I can see why EMTs would carry them.
I wasn't in any pain, because the ring still fit ok where it normally sits.
Getting it to the knuckle was a non-starter, though. The chronic tendinitis got me.
