Music Appreciation
Related: About this forumMax has an interesting new musical documentary: YachtRock. (yes, really)
I love all kinds of music (well, all kinds that have melody, so that typically excludes most rap), but nearly everything else. I don't really remember that this music of the 70s and 80s was called Yacht Rock, but apparently it was, later on--albeit having nothing to do with wealthy yacht owners. But from Steely Dan, Doobie Brothers, Toto, Kenny Loggins, Hall & Oats, Christopher Cross, Fleetwood Mac, and others through all of it, Michael McDonald--who did background vocals on nearly every major record during that time, this music--described as "sit-down dance" (LOL) made its mark. (and yes, I am fully aware of all the ridicule these performers and their music got over the years, but given Steely Dan is among the mix, I think they ought to "rethink."
At any rate, a hallmark song of this period is "What a Fool Believes" written by both Loggins and McDonald. See the documentary if you have a chance. Kind of a nice diversion from all the stress we are experiencing right now, I think.

(640 posts)I think it's silly and most people would call this kind of stuff a "retcon."
This is not a musical genre.

It was pretty good. I think their definition of yacht rock was awfully broad, but it's a light watch with some good interviews.
I wasn't at all unhappy I watched the whole thing.
