DAVID and I (Spin magazine interview with Bowie's producer and friend Tony Visconti, published 3/3/2026)

https://www.spin.com/2026/03/david-visconti-on-david-bowie/

There's no paywall, so you can read all of it. I can't do it justice with an excerpt, so I'll just list the questions Tony answered:

How was it re-connecting with Bowie after being away for 20 years?

What was it like working with him in the studio during the four-album period after 2002? On Heathen you played bass, guitars, recorders, sang backing vocals, which is how you began your relationship.

How did Dave Grohl and Peter Townshend become part of Heathen?

How was it Reality came so quickly, 14 months, after Heathen? It has a very live band sound.

David Torn, Earl Slick, Carlos Alomar, Gerry Leonard, Ben Monder are guitarists on this box set. Theres a debate going back to Mick Ronson: what did Bowie want in a guitarist, as he was not a conventional rock guy, yet had Robert Fripp, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Adrien Belew and Peter Frampton among others.

Before you started recording Blackstar, Bowie informed you of his cancer treatments. How did that feel?

You and Bowie began hanging at 55 Bar in New York to find the Blackstar team for his final album. What did Bowie think about the young, free-jazz cats he used?
