Found This Cool, Kitschy Music Store

Called the "Guitar Junkyard & Stringed Instrument Museum".
They've got a few hundred guitars, basses, mandolins, banjos, cellos (including a "cellobass" which is a cello with an electric bass neck.)
They had a couple very old pianos & harps, too.
Owner is a very nice guy & highly knowledgeable on repairs & mods. Way cheaper than most places too. He'll put a new rosewood fretboard on a vintage acoustic for under $300.
Great atmosphere. It's on a smallish town about a ninety miles from Chicago, so it's the local non-tavern hangout. Met several cool dudes and spent a couple hours just talking a playing.
Played a few songs on a very old parlor-size resonator that uses a wooden spider. Sounded super cool. Very resonatorish.
One of the collectables was a Les Paul Professional. 1969.
Has limited utility today because it has low Z pickups.
The other downside: IT IS HEAVY! Heaviest single neck guitar I've ever picked up. A typical LP weighs around 9 pounds. This thing had to be 14! They had other LP guitars there and the weights aren't close.
This thing was for studio dudes, plugging right into the console & playing sitting down.
Here's the guitar.

Here's the website for the place.

Looks like a great place to visit! Hope it isn't very far from you, so you can go back fairly often. highplainsdem Jan 2025 #1

Kick in to the DU tip jar?

This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.

As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
