(3,544 posts)The shows producer would later admit that the entire theme of the show - a woman who has to hide who she really is to avoid persecution from bigots - was intended as a direct allegory to what gays and lesbians had to endure. At least 7 recurring characters were played by LGBTQ actors. And yet, most of the general public never caught on.

(3,544 posts)I would also point out that Bewitched was often compared to I Dream of Genie, but the two shows were actually quite different. Genie was always causing problems that her master had to bail her out of, whereas Samantha was usually fixing problems caused by others.

And of course the lovely and talented Elizabeth Montgomery. Who could resist that nose twinkle? Not me! My first tv crush.
