Related: About this forumDoes anyone binge a few favorite TV shows to avoid the media propaganda?
I have been binging the Walking Dead and all it's spin offs...ever since the first of the year.... The main Walking Dead series has 11 seasons! It also plays on YouTube TV 24/7....I do have AMC Plus...
The thing I find about this show is that it is 100 x better binging than weekly x show..... each episode has details, excellent acting...I catch the flow from season to season and feel the characters point of view...
I find it an empowering storyline during these tRump chaos days and dystopina society we have to deal with....The show shows that people can unite and win...take a few tragic losses but ultimately win.... You also see how ugly people can get and we see ugly today!
Just sharing...I find it comforting...

(40,679 posts)I will also indulge in some 50s, half hour black-and-white western series just to observe the technical aspects. And admire their ability to show violence without really showing it.

We donated to Iowa Public Television and can watch all the old and some new series without commercials. Much more relaxing than the standard fare available on regular TV station programing.

(70,030 posts)Some of it was nostalgia; we watched the mysteries together when we first started dating (thirty years ago! )
The rest was just pure escape. It's weird when murder mysteries offer a pleasant relief from the shitstorm of modern life.

(5,645 posts)It was a great show, and we owned all of their DVDs. I wish they had continued with it.

(25,557 posts)I think it may have been at the State Theatre downtown, Detroit. Fun show!

(5,645 posts)However, there is also something to be said for watching a series in real time. I'm a big Star Trek fan, and while too young to have seen the original series "live," I watched each series after as it premiered, with the exception of DS9. A show set on a space station did not appeal to me. Thirty-plus years on I only recently started watching it. And, while I'm enjoying it, it isn't the same as being with these characters for years on end, recapping episodes with friends the next day, and anticipating the next season while waiting through a long summer.
In other words, it doesn't seem to resonate with me as much. It's like microwaving a burrito and earing it at the sink versus preparing and sitting down for a multi-course meal. Either way you get fed, which is the point, but it seems like some enjoyment is lost in the process. My .02.

(1,615 posts)Prefer shows that tell pretty good stories but keep it light with a sense of humor too.
So help me Todd, Elsbeth, NCIS Hawaii, High Potential, Whiskey Cavalier, Limitless, and Wild Cards..

(13,974 posts)They trigger our time loop thoughts back to when life was more " safe" and trusting... these shows aired from the 70's thru 2000....like music triggers back to a time we experience a life of predictability...we think of when we first heard the song, people we were with and mostly fond memories...
This helps us stay grounded thru the dystopian regime....
The Walking Dead....it shows me we can survive this tRump/puttin toxic waste environment.......The Walking Dead characters, they show us many varieties of dysfunction responses to the doom....if we stick together and fight with some sense of morality and respect...we survive.

(8,937 posts)The original series accomplished the impossible and made the far-fetched concept of a zombie apocalypse REAL. It was immersive and engaging and terrifying. The early seasons drove the plot forward and were very bingeable.
After a few seasons the show trailed off as it settled into a big bad/monster of the week formula. The lack of plot progression was palpable, and I don't believe binging them would be very satisfying. I think this downturn began with the prison thread in Season 3. I did watch all 11 seasons as they came out.
