Democrats seize on Trump's attacks on Sen. John McCain in a play for battleground Arizona
Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden and national Democrats are aiming to use President Donald Trumps continuing attacks on the late Sen. John McCain against Trump in Arizona, the 2020 battleground state McCain represented on Capitol Hill for more than three decades.
Democrats are making an Arizona campaign issue out of an explosive report published last week by The Atlantic and disputed by Trump in which Trump was said to have denigrated service members and those killed or wounded in action as "losers" and "suckers."
The Atlantic article, which cited unnamed sources, also said that Trump did not want to support the 2018 funeral of McCain, a decorated Navy veteran who was held in North Vietnam as a prisoner of war after his plane was shot down in 1967.
The Democratic National Committee is releasing Wednesday a new television ad in Arizona home to an estimated 600,000 veterans that rips Trump over the derogatory comments about service members. The commercial features messaging about McCains service, and Trumps comments about McCain.
