ALEXANDER, Ark. An Arkansas police officer who told a colleague he would shoot through the door any protesters who came to his home has been charged with killing a fellow officer who knocked on his door last month, court records show.
Calvin Nicholas Nick Salyers, 33, of Alexander, is charged with manslaughter in the June 3 slaying of 36-year-old Scott Hutton, who was shot through Salyers front door.
Salyers turned himself in to state troopers Thursday, according to the Arkansas State Police. He was booked into the Saline County Jail with bail set at $15,000.

State police officials said last month that Saline County deputies were called around 7:12 p.m. June 3 to Salyers home, where they found the mortally wounded Hutton lying on the ground outside the residence. Hutton was taken to a hospital in Little Rock, where doctors pronounced him dead.

(51,830 posts)Your "fucking cops are all like that" attitude is crap.
You would still call those "all cops are crap" from 911 if you were mugged with a baseball bat on the street.

(38,601 posts)According to investigators, Hutton had driven to Salyers home to pick up a patrol vehicle. When he tried to text Salyers but received no answer, he knocked his door. Salyers, who was watching a movie with his girlfriend on the couch, grabbed his gun when he heard the knock. When he looked through the peephole, he saw a figure standing there with a gun on his hip.
Salyers stated that he transferred his weapon from his right hand into his left hand and reached for the door knob and, as he opened the door, the gun went off, firing a round through the front door, Jacks wrote. It was only after Hutton had fell to the ground that Salyers realized what hed done.
Evidence showed that Salyers had his Glock pressed against the door when he fired.

(780 posts)That sounds awfully light under the circumstances- I wonder if they are any circumstances where a civilian anywhere has killed a cop and got a $15,000 bail.

I guess Blue Lives don't matter (when it is blue on blue).
Accidental discharge multiple times?
Hutton, a 36-year-old Army veteran, was shot multiple times by a Glock handgun at Salyers Evergreen Drive home in Alexander, state police said in a previous release.

(3,959 posts)His training officer (a sergeant) was aware of the man's unstable nature and did nothing but tell him shooting people (protestors) who come to his door was a bad idea.
This should have resulted in some serious action as the warning sign couldn't have been clearer
