Trump, Republicans Threaten to Withhold Disaster Aid

Republicans are preparing to hold California families reeling from the impact of deadly wildfires hostage unless Democrats vote to pass tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans.

They are saying, no federal aid for recovery unless Republicans get what they want.

How about this, Gov Newsom, How about
CALIFORNIA WITHHOLDS FEDERAL TAXES THAT FEED RED STATES AND KEEP IT FOR OUR OWN DISASTER RELIEF??

WHAT DISASTER COULD BE NEXT THESE MAGAs THREATEN TO WITHHOLD AID??
EARTHQUAKE? FLOODS? DROUGHT??

THIS IS NOT MAKING AMERICA GREAT FOR ANYONE!

In reality, California pays far more to the federal government than it receives in benefits — one of only a handful of states for which that is true. Analysis from the Rockefeller Institute of Government shows that, in 2022, California contributed $83 billion more in taxes than it received from the federal government.

about how a state could "withhold federal taxes" but is it really possible?

My employer withholds money from my paycheck twice a month... plus every time I am granted a new RSU ( restricted stock unit ) as part of my compensation, the stock broker company takes the number of shares that I receive and immediately sells about half to pay both the federal and state taxes on this bonus money that I make. I think both my employer pays the money from my paycheck and the stock broker takes the proceeds from my RSU sales and both of them send the money directly to the US Treasury. I don't think the State of California ever sees this federal withholding money.

So how is it that California can stop sending Californians tax dollars to the feds? I would love California to do that... but I am not sure that it is possible.

I file and send my Federal Taxes directly to the IRS, not to my state.
