(17,240 posts)Let's say the kids phone number is number 1 position and a rock is pressing on it. The phone will dial the number programmed. The people called will hear noise because the handset is crushed. The phone line will disconnect a bit after the kids hang up. Dial tone will return after a bit and the process starts all over again.
Ex telephone man... It used to happen a lot, but with something sticky holding a button down.

(30,472 posts)for land lines, the power to run the phone comes from the phone company... so all that needs to happen for the speed dial phone calls is that the wire pair from the phone to the wall jack and down to the basement patch panel remain intact despite the building collapse. Very possible.
so, as long as the phone has buttons pushed by something on top of the phone, you will get phone calls via the speed dial.
