Wichita City Council votes to stick with March sales tax election

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – The Wichita City Council on Wednesday voted 5-2 to proceed with the 1% sales tax election on March 3.

Council members J.V. Johnston, Maggie Ballard, Dalton Glasscock, Becky Tuttle and Joseph Shepard voted in favor of holding the election in March.

“The delay also has real financial consequences. There are no general fund dollars set aside for many of our investments, including $4 million for Second Light,” Glasscock said. “Postponing only pushes those costs further into the future.”

Mayor Lily Wu and Councilman Mike Hoheisel voted no and wanted to delay the election until the primary in August.
