KY-SD37: 3 candidates compete for Kentucky Senate seat amid low voter turnout

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — With just one day left to vote before the special election to fill Kentucky's Senate District 37 seat, only one percent of voters have cast early ballots.

The seat, covering southwest Jefferson County including Pleasure Ridge Park, Valley Station, Fairdale and Shively, opened after former Sen. David Yates became interim Jefferson County Clerk.

The race will determine who represents Louisville's south end in the Kentucky Senate for the remainder of the Yate's term, which is the next three years.

Three candidates — Democrat Gary Clemons, Republican Calvin Leach and Libertarian Wendy Higdon — have had just six weeks to campaign.
