Christie lawyers facing subpoena

The New Jersey legislative committee investigating the George Washington Bridge lane closings said Tuesday it will give the law firm that conducted an internal probe for Governor Chris Christie's office until the end of the week to hand over numerous documents before facing a subpoena.
New Jersey assemblyman John Wisniewski, the co-chairman of the investigative committee, said Tuesday afternoon that the panel's attorney, Reid Schar, was in active talks to obtain transcripts or recordings of the 70 interviews conducted by the law firm Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher.
A team at that firm, led by former Rudy Giuliani aide and federal prosecutor Randy Mastro, released a 360-page report last month that they said cleared Christie and his closest staff members of wrongdoing in the bridge scandal, as well of accusations that some of the Republican's top aides tried to strong-arm the mayor of Hoboken into supporting a development project there.
Many Democrats labeled the investigation, which cost a reported $1 million, a whitewash.
