SC-HD98: Early voting open for South Carolina House District special election

DORCHESTER COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) — Early voting is underway in a special election to fill a seat in the South Carolina House representing part of Dorchester County.

Republican Greg Ford and Democrat Sonja Ogletree-Satani, both Air Force veterans, advanced to the special election for District 98 after winning their respective parties’ nominations in November. Ford defeated his opponent in a runoff with 56 percent of the vote, while Ogletree-Satani won her primary outright with about 58 percent of the vote.

The election is set for Jan. 6, 2026, but voters do not have to wait until then to cast a ballot.

Governor Henry McMaster signed a law in May 2022 that replaces in-person absentee voting with an early in-person voting period for the two weeks leading up to election days.

Any registered voter residing in the district, including those who will be 18 years old by Election Day, can cast a ballot during the early voting period without an excuse.
