Houston-area voters are in the midst of three consecutive elections

Houston-area voters may be excused if they're feeling whipsawed by the number of overlapping elections as the round of early voting that kicked off this past Monday, April 20, began a trio of election cycles that will last until the day after Memorial Day.

Harris County Clerk Teneshia Hudspeth advised voters to check their sample ballots at HarrisVotes.com to be certain they're aware of all the contests they're eligible to participate in.

The first contest involves a special election to fill the vacant Texas Senate District 4 seat, which also serves portions of Galveston, Montgomery and Jefferson counties as well as all of Chambers County. Former state Sen. Brandon Creighton, a Republican, resigned from the seat last October to take a post as chancellor of the Texas Tech University system.

Vying to succeed Creighton are Republican Brett Ligon, the former Montgomery County district attorney, and Democrat Matt Angeletti, a special education advocate. Early voting in this race continues through April 28, with election day on May 2.

And then hold an election when it's most convenient.

May 2nd is a Uniform Election Day in Texas. Numerous entities across Harris County have elections.
