School Board seeks March special election for Braddock District seat
If the Fairfax County School Board has its way, a new Braddock District representative will be in place by the end of the current academic year.
In accordance with Virginia law, the remaining board members yesterday (Thursday) petitioned the Fairfax County Circuit Court to schedule the special election to replace Rachna Sizemore Heizer (D), who was elected earlier this month as the countys new Braddock District supervisor.
The petition, which was approved unanimously by the board, requests March 3 as the date of the special election, coming in just shy of the 90-day limit allowed for the seat to be vacant. The official date is set at the discretion of the court.
Sizemore Heizer officially resigned from the seat on Tuesday (Dec. 16) shortly before she was sworn in as Braddocks representative on the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors. She succeeds James Walkinshaw (D), who was elected to Congress earlier this year.
