Starbucks CEO expects to make corporate cuts this spring
Starbucks Corp. (Nasdaq: SBUX) may soon join the list of major Seattle-area employers cutting jobs.
Starbucks CEO Brian Niccol said Friday he expects a round of corporate layoffs will come as soon as this spring, as the company streamlines operations in an effort to turn around performance.
"Across our support teams, we have many talented partners with deep expertise and a strong, skilled team that is driving impact for our customers, partners and business every day," Niccol said in a letter to employees. "As Ive spent time working with teams across the business and observed how we work, its also clear that we have some opportunities to operate more efficiently."
Starbucks is the state's 16th largest employer with about 10,000 employees, which includes corporate and retail workers. More than 3,500 corporate employees are based at its Sodo headquarters and other regional offices.
