Christmas Eve windstorm possible for Snohomish County

EVERETT — The National Weather Service has issued a high wind watch for the western parts of Snohomish County, with Wednesday forecasts predicting possible 50-60 mph gusts.

Beginning around noon on Wednesday, northeastern winds could suddenly shift to strong southernly winds, National Weather Service meteorologist Dustin Guy said on Tuesday.

“Wind speeds of 25 to 35, maybe some gusts over 50 miles an hour, very suddenly occurring in the afternoon, and that would last for maybe two or three hours,” he said. “Again, it’s just a high wind watch. We’re still working on the details, but there’s potential for a brief but high-impact wind event tomorrow afternoon.”

The lowlands of Snohomish County can also expect some rain, with forecasts suggesting up to a quarter inch of rain.
