DR Horton targets vacant Walmart site for 248-home development

D.R. Horton Inc. (NYSE: DHI) has set its sights on converting a vacant Walmart store in Everett into a housing development called Rowan Park.

The homebuilding giant plans to tear down a former Walmart Supercenter site at 11400 Evergreen Way and replace it with 156 townhomes and 92 single-family homes, according to preliminary permit applications filed last month.

Walmart shuttered the 143,364-square-foot store and laid off 198 employees in early 2023.

“Rowan Park transforms a largely inactive commercial property into a vibrant residential community that contributes to the City's long-term vision for growth, housing diversity and sustainable development,” project consultant AKS Engineering & Forestry wrote in documents submitted to the city.

I wasn't aware that Walmart had shut down but I tend to avoid Walmart as much as possible.
