Seattle's Morgan Junction Park will close for construction next year

The delayed expansion of Morgan Junction Park in Seattle is moving ahead with an updated schematic plan shared by the city.

The expansion area is currently open to the public for interim use, Seattle Parks and Recreation announced, and will remain open until a second phase of construction begins next year.

The city purchased a half-acre West Seattle property at 6317 California Ave. SW, located north of Morgan Junction Park, in 2014 for the expansion. The larger park is intended to add green space to the high-density neighborhood, and the site is one of many the city acquired to provide additional open spaces across Seattle.

Morgan Junction Park and the added parcel will be closed when construction begins next year, the city said. Permit, design and construction work took place in 2025, and the city in the second phase of the park addition.
