I don't think they'd cost that much, but they can be complex.
I don't know if Ritchie has the authority to conduct such audits without legislation. Probably not.
As far as hackable voting machines, they all are! So what would you like Ritchie to do? Lever machines are probably the least hackable but they seem to be off the table.
Anyway, I'm glad you wrote to him. Please let us know if you get an answer.
