Rebels kill 13 foreign peacekeepers in DR Congo
Thirteen soldiers serving with peacekeeping forces in the Democratic Republic of Congo have been killed in clashes with rebels from the M23 group.
The South African military said nine of its soldiers died helping to push back a rebel advance on the city of Goma, in eastern DR Congo, while three Malawians and a Uruguayan were also killed.

The M23 group has called on Congolese troops in Goma to surrender in order to avoid bloodshed. While DR Congo has severed diplomatic ties with neighbouring Rwanda, accusing the country of being behind the rebellion.
The move comes after M23 fighters killed a Congolese military governor who was visiting the frontline on Thursday. Earlier in January, they captured the key eastern Congolese towns of Minova and Masisi.

Rwandan army ready to invade DRC and help rebels seize city
Large numbers of troops from Rwanda have been pouring across the border into the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) to help rebels seize the regional capital of Goma before an emergency UN meeting about the crisis takes place on Sunday, intelligence officials have warned.
Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) soldiers are believed to have secretly crossed into the eastern DRC over the past few days to assist a lightning offensive by the M23 militia.
Officials speaking to the Observer on condition of anonymity said the RDF had cranked up the pressure on the Congolese city by massing troops on the Rwandan side of the border, a few hundred metres from central Goma.
Most of the RDFs most senior commanders are said to have been deployed in the Rwandan city of Gisenyi, less than a mile across the border from Goma.

Rwanda has, incredibly, launched a bid to host a Formula 1 Grand Prix. Where the money to do that has come from is not clear, so many suspect it's from illegal mining operations in the DRC in areas Rwanda and its terrorist allies control.
