(340 posts)Don't overcook the noodles. And I usually have leftovers so they dont get gummy in the leftover container.
Everyone can add as many or as few as they like.
Just easier for me.

(22,486 posts)Someone recommended cooking the noodles along with the sauce.
It came out like chef boyardee - horrible. I think that rinse of the noodles after they are al dente gets rid of all the gluten in the boiling water (or sauce).
Just like porridge. Used to be the common people cooked all their food in one pot - meat, potatoes, vegetables, etc. The haut cuisine French introduced having the ingredients cooked separately and savored, each one for its unique flavor and texture.

(2,362 posts)Cook noodles in the soup, you add starch and body. I like brothy chicken noodle soup where you can still see the bottom of the bowl through the broth, so egg noodles cook separately.
I married somebody who likes soup to be what I consider gloppy (or what I would call "stew" )... So, if I'm not cooking the chicken noodle, the noodles would go in the soup to cook, along with some additional starch to make everything murkier

(22,628 posts)I like a thick soup with lots of body, guess I take after my Mom. We named her favorites Myrt's Gruel, and Cream of Leftover. Yes, she was irritated. lol

(871 posts)It's basically cut spaghetti. I cook it in the soup. I'm okay with the starch; my soups are meals, not appetizers. Filling is good. I am not a fan of egg noodles in soup.
