Related: About this forumBoiled Linseed Oil airing out time for rags...
I'm getting ready to treat my guitar necks. Seeing so many people talk about boiled linseed oil has made me decide to try it. I know you are supposed to lay the rags or paper towels out flat after using them with boiled linseed oil or you are supposed to put them in a canister of water, but how long do they need to be laid out flat before you can just trash them? Or do they need to go into the container with water forever? I'm confused on the timing and proper disposal. I don't want a fire. I have seen the videos. I want to know the best way to handle the paper towels before I do this.

(7,526 posts)After use, I drape the rags and and other things like used steel wool over the edge of an old trash barrel outside. Once they dry, add to my regular trash. Never had a problem.
I also have used paint remover with the same precautions. Dry out any rags, wool, scrapings and dispose as your town requires. Mine could go into the regular trash after drying.
