(437 posts)There are no words to make this better. We've been rescuing cats for 31 years and it never gets any easier.
Love and light to you today, rampartd. May her memory become a treasure once the pain is less sharp (I won't say goes away, because it never does). Be gentle with yourself.

(5,615 posts)The joy that they give is in direct relation to the pain we feel when they are gone. And its ALWAYS worth it!
All you can do is focus on the memories of that joy.

(4,736 posts)... have been an integral part of my life for as long as I can remember. But they always leave us much too soon, and the pain of their loss never wanes. My sincerest condolences to you and your wife. As long as you remember her, Snowball will live on in your hearts.

(131,217 posts)We who choose to surround ourselves with lives even more temporary than our own, live within a fragile circle; easily and often breached. Unable to accept its awful gaps, we would still live no other way. We cherish memory as the only certain immortality, never fully understanding the necessary plan. ... Another cat? Perhaps. For love there is also a season; its seeds must be resown. But a family cat is not replaceable like a wornout coat or a set of tires. Each new kitten becomes its own cat, and none is repeated. I am four cats old, measuring out my life in friends that have succeeded but not replaced one another. - Irving Townsend
