From MIButterfly, "This is the only picture I have of Holly and Martini on my computer. It was taken a few years ago when they were being boarded while I was on vacation. I had contacted the place asking how they were getting along and they sent me this photo. That's Holly on the left and Martini partially hidden by the blanket."

Replies shall go to George McGovern, because it was I who started this discussion.

(1,919 posts)I adopted them together but they couldn't be more different. Martini is friendly, playful and affectionate and Holly is not. I suspect she was feral. She was terrified of me and a bully to Martini for years. Martini would want to play but Holly wanted no part of it. She would hiss at Martini and smack her. She pushed Martini away from the food and water for years until Martini finally started pushing back. Now that they're both older (14), they coexist as well as can be expected. I think Holly would've been happier as an only cat.
When I asked the boarding place how they were doing, they told me they were fine, that they were cuddling and I thought my cats don't cuddle, so they sent me that picture. I think they were cuddling because they were in a strange place filled with different smells and noises, so they clung to the only thing that was familiar to them.
