Merlin has turned in to the classic annoying little brother

Last edited Mon Apr 7, 2025, 11:32 AM - Edit history (1)

He LOVES ambushing the other kid cats. I had to grab him, this morning, so that Carys could escape the room! He roams the house looking for things to use for his mischievous pleasure. Anything he finds on the floor is transformed in to a toy. Even a candy wrapper! He especially likes the clear ones. He will dive in to a waste basket to find something to scatter. Sometimes when I walk down the hall he wraps both front legs around my ankle and goes along for the slide ride. He does get the occasional whack from which ever he is tormenting but there's never any kind of fight where I would have to intervene.

He does have his sweet side, too. I woke up at 3am, AGAIN, after a very disturbing dream, and he immediately moved from the foot of the bed and curled up next to my head, purring away. Sometimes he even drapes himself across the top of my head and purrs. If my lap is full of his brothers, he climbs on top of which ever is right next to me so he can curl up beneath my chin.

The boy is just an amazing bundle of mischief, love and energy.

They're just the right size and she can toss it into the air, chase it, and carry it from room to room. If you toss one into the wastebasket, she just looks visibly disappointed until you give it to her, and then it's game on!

that, when she was a kitten, loved to play with crumpled up paper towels or piece of paper, more than her little toys. She passed away three weeks ago. First time we have not had a cat since 1987. It’s been very difficult.

One of our current 4 is very fond of pencils. Also Q-tips. My husband uses Q-tips in his hobby of building model airplanes, and this cat knows exactly where they are in the model workshop. He helps himself whenever the opportunity presents itself. We find the remains of mangled Q-tips throughout the house.

I think most cats like long , slender objects like pencils, oens, straws, or chop sticks, and I think I might know why. My theory - a young kitten's first play things are the tails of their litter mates and moms. Perhaps these long slender objects make a lifelong imprint on them.

What a mischievous little scamp! Tell the truth, you love him all the more for it. I had to laugh at your description of him wrapping his front paws around your ankle and going along for the slide ride down the hall - I can almost see it in my mind!

But at the end of the day, when it's all said and done, he is truly and foremost, a little lovebug! How absolutely precious that he takes such good care of you.
