Related: About this forumCarys is still sleeping by my side
Some nights she waits until I'm asleep before she hops up on the bed. I usually wake up at 2 or 3 so that's how I know she's still finding comfort, sleeping next to me.
Last night there were two false starts. The second time she tapped me on my shoulder, twice, before jumping down. The third time was a charm and she spent the rest of the night curled up, right next to me. She really enjoys scritches.
Her solitary time, during the day, is growing shorter and shorter. She spends a lot of time meandering around the house and has chosen a good spot to sit and observe me when I'm in the den.
It is wonderful watching her confidence and her trust in me grow stronger.
As for Merlin, he's a hilarious handful. This morning I swept the den floor and was about to push the 'debris' on to the dustpan. That's when Merlin decided that was the perfect spot for him to plop down and take a break from running circles around and ON me. Right now he's battling some invisible (to me) intruder. He is a marvelous distraction.

(157 posts)I had two cats sleeping right next to me the other night and woke up sweaty. They bring me much comfort. Three all together so they take turns.

(27,519 posts)Her sister, Moon Dust, is still pretty 'keep your hands off of mw' but will, on occasion, allow humans to give her some affection. Her brother, Space Boy' is the most socialized of the 3. Back when they were still feral kittens he was the first one to approach me and let me pick him up. Moon Dust became kind of receptive. Carys was the only one who would never approach me or let me approach her. I was shocked when my friend was able to scoop her up.
Every once in a while she used to hop up on me for some attention but the first time I had a house full of company, she reverted back to hiding away. She's only 'popped out' once, when someone else was in the house. That was when my friend, who originally caught her, was here for a visit.
I love her so much and have unending patience with her. Maybe that's starting to pay off.
your patience is indeed paying off. Most people would have given up! You are the kitten whisperer!😻
