Items on the menu at a Mexican restaurant.

Why is it "Chile Relleno" but "Chili Verde"? The two "C" words have the same etymology, from Nahuatl "chilli".

Googling around I see Chiles Rellenos are chiles stuffed with fillings that range from ground or stewed meats to a medley of vegetables, cheese, etc.

While Chili Verde is a 'stew' (chili?) likely made with chunks of pork shoulder, slow cooked in a green chile sauce of jalapeño chiles, garlic, and tomatillos.

So one refers to the chile, while the other refers to a 'stew' (chili).

"chile" is the word in Spanish
"chili" is American English
"chilli" is British English
