I put myself in "Search" looking for something about "The Girl With, etc." and ran into your post, raccoon.
Just last week mvccd1000 recommended Loren D. Estleman's "AMOS WALKER: The Complete Story Collection" (which I have, but haven't started yet). Detective Walker works in Detroit, and latest book just came out.

(813 posts)by Steve Hamilton dips into Detroit from time to time. It won the Edgar for Best Novel this year--although only my second favorite. (This is not one of his Alex McKnight books, those they are also excellent).
Amos Walker, for sure.
Earlier Elmore Leonard frequently uses it as a location.
