I am reading The Power of the Dog by Don Winslow. This would be the third of Winslow's books for me. This one certainly has my interest. It is quite long but I should have it finished by next Sunday.
My wife just finished Vacationland by Sarah Stonich as recommended by scarletwoman. She really enjoyed it, as I knew she would.

(10,420 posts)NC, and Zelda Fitzgerald will want to read this one. Lee Smith's books about the Appalachian Mtns. bring it all home to me and, while this one is somewhat different than her previous works, it has a familiar feeling. Zelda is a "guest" at the Highland Hospital in Asheville, NC when the young narrator is brought in for confinement.
I wanted to read this book because I lived in Asheville for many years, my workplace was on Montford Avenue, where Highland Hospital is located. Another point of interest--the 2nd part of Barbara Kingsolver's latest novel, The Lacuna, is set in this same locale. The plot has taken an interesting turn with the introduction of a new character and it will be interesting to see how the whole thing turns out.
