Hard Truth

This world doesn’t see me
Unknown across the sea
Or even down the street
I am a pebble on an endless beach
Buried by the waves
Pressed down beneath the surface
Until I drown in obligation
Not of my own making

The structure of this world
Was not of my own making
A porridge of mistakes
Poured into the mixing pot
Fed to me by force
And blessed by the authorities
As good for me
And a divine privilege

Now the leaders want to force me back to work
By destroying the economy
By wiping out my savings
No voices to the contrary
A future of minimum wage
What happened to retirement
To golden days of freedom
And life ended in leisure?

Here I am, come take me
Free me from this turmoil
Poor future generations
They may not have the choice
But a life in iron-clad shackles
Beatings every day
By billionaires who rule us
And constrict our very lives

Life is hard, the future scary,
Thankfully, there is an end.
