Belle Fourche City Council heads for special election to fill 3 vacant seats
BELLE FOURCHE On Monday, the Belle Fourche City Council reversed its decision to appoint a successor to Lee Capp, who resigned last week from his Ward 2 seat. Now, a special election is set for April 7, to fill the vacancy left by Capp, as well as vacancies in Ward 1 and Ward 3 left by Rhonda Schild and Donald Elliott, respectively.
Schild was removed from the city council on a 5-1 vote Thursday for alleged violations of the councils code of ethics. Capp resigned over what he described as inaction around Schilds alleged misconduct at the same meeting. The council acknowledged Councilman Donald Elliotts resignation Monday.
All three vacant seats will be filled via special election in April. Once elected, the new councilmembers in Wards 1, 2, and 3 will serve out the remaining terms of their predecessors.
Both Elliott and Schilds terms would have naturally expired in 2027. Capps term would have expired in 2028.
