2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumI have analyzed all the posts on this forum and it all boils down to this
Their people voted.
Ours didn't.
They had a candidate their voters were excited about.
Ours not so much.
Everything else is a lot of hot air and speculation.

(3,100 posts)I would say that sums it up quite nicely.

(15,166 posts)Clinton's total is about 62.5 million (a loss of about 3.4 million compared to Obama).
Trump's total is about 61.2 million (a gain of about 0.3 million compared to Romney).
Many people weren't excited about Hillary. I was one of the people who voted for Obama in the 2008 primary and breathed a big sigh of relief that he beat her for the Democratic nomination!
I still voted for Hillary (and all Democrats) in the recent election, but her "baggage" (deserved or not) concerned me. She'd been a conservative propagandist punching bag for years, plus I knew that she'd have NAFTA and previous gun restrictions attached to her thanks to Bill... not to mention his infidelities.

(28,835 posts)She's likely going to finish relatively close to Obama's 2012 total. The massive decline in turnout many are claiming simply isn't reality.

(1,128 posts)Yes we won the popular vote but it was never about the popular vote and we knew that going in. We just did not have enough people showing up in the right places like Philly, Detroit etc.

This blue collar/NAFTA blow back has been building for years. Too many donors/DNC/DCCC/DSCC types just didn't hear it, much less listen. I've been waiting for a GOP candidate to figure it out. I just didn't think it'd be a knuckle head like Trump.

And Trump was effective in nurturing their fear & racism.
